308AAD: The mirror and book (final piece)

This project really pushed me being my comfort zone, I ended up changing my short cut story 3 times until I final found the one I felt I could reflect the most.

The BBC shortcuts I decided to select (for the third time lucky) was called Role Models. The particular part I wanted to reflect was short. The quote was:

"You know, vampires have no reflections in a mirror? There's this idea that monsters don't have reflections in a mirror. And what I've always thought isn't that monsters don't have reflections in a mirror. It's that if you want to make a human being into a monster, deny them, at the cultural level, any reflection of themselves... Part of what inspired me, was this deep desire that before I died, I would make a couple of mirrors. That I would make some mirrors so that kids like me might see themselves reflected back and might not feel so monstrous for it." - Junot Diaz

I made this section into a visual representation using glue, a mirror and a book. Below I have attached images of the final outcome:

Producing this mirror was incredibly hard! I ended up redoing it 4 times, the final time was on my 22nd birthday... Yes, I sent my birthday doing this project.

D&AD Submission

I decided to submit my work to the D&AD competition. Here I have attached the video presentation and support .jpegs that I sent. I am very excited about this and I am hoping I win a pencil from this completion, as this will give an advantage over others when applying for jobs. To submit work, I had to write small explanation. Here is what I put: ‘Virgin Venture’ is for the adventurous. The app and website allow people to book holidays based on categories and destinations. The second feature, which differentiates this app is ‘Venture Luck’. This feature is for the risk takers. The interface of this section is inspired by the popular Tinder app, allowing people to skip, save or book pre-planned holidays. The only detail needed from the person is a date. There are also interactive posters that work identically, allowing someone to tap the screen. Each tap reveals a new destination, they can then use NFC to save the details. ...

Campaign Presentation

The week of submission is such a blur. After rushing about trying to hit a deadline that was sooner than originally told, I was also struck with a sickness bug making it hard for me to function and concentrate. The work was supposed to be due on Wednesday 10th January however, the paperwork said it was due Monday 8th. Even though I was struggling to keep anything down, I still managed to go into university to presentation my presentation (Friday 12th January) of the work I have produced. After all of the struggle, I'm proud of myself. My presentation went well, I received verbal positive feedback from Paul which makes me feel like I will achieve a strong grade of 2-1 or a first. Hopefully, it will be a first as I am aiming to achieve all first for semester 1.

Placement research

Over the last few weeks I have been researching job placements. It has been very hard to find 3 month placements, all of them seem to be a year long or I am not qualified for the opportunity.
